Notaries help protect the public from forgery, identity theft, mortgage fraud, and other document-related crimes. When a Notary intentionally breaks the law or ignores their duties, they can cause serious harm, especially in real estate and other high-value transactions. Notaries have an ethical obligation to report misconduct by other Notaries to protect the public and uphold trust in the profession.

If you see a Notary knowingly violating their responsibilities, you should report it to your state’s Notary commissioning authority and to law enforcement.

To file a complaint against a Florida notary, use the official form from the Florida Governor’s Office, detailing misconduct with facts and the relevant Florida Statute (Chapter 117).
Get the Form: Download the official Notary Complaint Form from the Executive Office of the Governor’s website.
  1. Provide Details:
    • Typewritten or clearly printed information.
    • Specific facts of the alleged misconduct.
    • A copy of the improperly notarized document.
    • The specific Florida Statute (Chapter 117) you believe was violated.
  2. Mail It: Send the completed form to the Governor’s Notary Section in Tallahassee.
